The museum displays the oldest preserved ship in the world which dates to the 17th century and its size and state is really unbelievable. The Vasa ship sunk in 1628 on its maiden voyage from the shipyard due to serious miscalculations during its construction. Luckily it got perfectly preserved on the bottom of the sea and restored in the 1960s.
The best way to start your tour of Vasa Museum is to watch a film in the main auditorium that will introduce you to Vasa’s history.
The Vasa Museum is the most popular one in Stockholm and although it is generously built, it can get crowded in the peak season, so be sure to arrive early.
