Buda Castle (Hungary)
Probably the most iconic and recognizable landmark in Budapest, this castle, included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, is a must-see for every visitor. The complex of buildings nowadays consists of multiple museums, showcasing everything from military history to pharmacy, as well as the Hungarian National Gallery. Do not forget to take a stroll in the castle’s gardens and admire the beautiful view and statues there.
Originally home to Hungarian royalty, the castle has nearly 8 centuries of history under its belt. Since its construction, it has undergone several reconstructions. The last changes to it were done quite recently, in 1960, when the Baroque dome got remade in a classicist style.
The castle hosts many events and festivals annually, like the Hungarian Festival of Crafts in August, or the Palinka and Sausage Festival. The entrance ticket to the festival usually enables visitors to enter the castle premises as well.
