Baščaršija (Bosnia)

Bascarsh (Bosnian: Baščaršija) The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the famous Ottoman bazaar, located in the center of Sarajevo and founded in the 16th century. It is still in use today and is the heart of Sarajevo. It was the main targets the Serbian army tried to destroy during the Bosnian War. Surrounded by Ottoman mosques built on four sides in the architectural style of the Istanbul mosques, there is an inn, madrasa and many imarets built by Bosnia Beylerbeyi Gazi Hüsrev Bey in Bascarsi. Many works in Başçarşı, which is a very beautiful place that has become a symbol of Sarajevo and which is called as a Turkish region, is the property of Gazi Hüsrev Bey Foundation.

Bascarsh, where the Gazi Husrev Bey Mosque, where Turbot of Gazi Hüsrev Bey is located in his hunting ground, is also connected to the modern Ferhadiye Caddesi which is one of the most central places of Sarajevo.
